Samsung Launched a Free AI Course in the Kazakh Language

Samsung cooperated with Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU) and developed a free online course on neural networks and computer vision in Kazakh on the Stepik educational platform.

KazNU is a partner of the «Samsung IT Academy». This social and educational project provides the students of KazNU Faculty of Information Technologies study the «Artificial Intelligence» course in the “Samsung IT Academy”. University classes run with the online course «Neural Networks and Computer Vision» on Stepik. This open course in Russian was published in 2019, quickly became popular, and currently has more than 54 000 listeners who rated it 4.9/5. In 2019, the course got the Stepik Awards.

Samsung R&D Institute Russia and Samsung AI Center Moscow specialists collaborated with KazNU scientists and teachers, led by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan Edilkhan Amirgaliev. This group developed the course version on computer vision in the Kazakh language «Нейрондық желілер және компьютерлік көру».

The new course is available to everyone, who is taking their first steps in computer vision and machine learning. The course begins with the basics of neural networks, then the popular architectures and algorithms for tuning neural networks, convolutional neural networks, regularization and normalization methods are studied. Students will have eight practical seminars for studying machine learning and computer vision tools. At the end of the course, students are already able to solve serious practical problems.

Since October 2021, a group of students from the KazNU Faculty of Information Technology has been studying on the track «Artificial Intelligence» of the «Samsung IT Academy» led by KazNU senior lecturer Zholdas Buribaev. At the moment, 20 students have completed a new course in the Kazakh language and have begun to develop a graduation project in computer vision.

«Samsung IT Academy» is an educational project of Samsung Electronics and is part of the Samsung Innovation Campus global initiative. Its key objective is to enable university students to gain practical knowledge in the most demanded areas of information technology. The Academy program includes educational tracks dedicated to the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence and Mobile Development. Academy courses are developed by specialists from Samsung R&D Institute Russia and Samsung AI Center in Moscow. The educational program “Samsung IT Academy” was awarded the national Runet Prize in 2021. In November 2021, Samsung Innovation Campus was awarded 1st place in the «Leaders of the Future» nomination of the All-Russian contest of best practices in the social and humanitarian sphere «Creating the Future».
