Samsung has reviewed Russian startups for further cooperation at the Samsung Connection Day

Moscow, 27.11.2018 — Samsung Connection Day took place at the Samsung AI Center - Moscow (SAIC-Moscow). At the event experts from the SAIC-Moscow met with Russian startups to assess their opportunities for further cooperation with the company’s business units in Russia and Korea.

Russian IT startups and projects related to Samsung products took part in Samsung Connection Day. During the event, 12 teams from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk and Samara made presentations introducing their projects.

At the Samsung Connection Day opening, Head of Samsung R&D Institute Russia, Vice-President of Samsung Electronics Jin Wook Lee said, “In its activities, Samsung is focused on innovation and creativity, which helps the company to constantly evolve and improve competitively. The company is open to sharing experiences and aims to develop innovative technologies in cooperation with both experienced partners and start-ups. Joining efforts with its partners, Samsung inspires people and creates a high-tech and innovative future for them. I hope that our dialogue will cause the expansion of our partnership network of startups, which play an important role in determining the future of new Samsung products and services.”

The topics of the projects presented at the event ranged from facial expression recognition to heart disorder diagnosis. The conference also included presentations by such startups and projects as Humanteq — assessment of a user’s personal portrait and preferences, Mishka.ai — a platform for creating smart toys, Rate&Goods — information service about products available on the market, Total Vision — eye tracking technology for VR/AR devices, CGF Studio — recognition of facial expressions and human movements and their adaptation for virtual avatars, Speereo — speech recognition for embedded solutions, Last.Backend – automation of building, deploying and managing apps, Printeltech — gas sensor for wide use, Dioram — ultra-precise positioning devices for VR and AR, Expasoft — optimization of AI solutions for embedded devices, Sense2Beat — diagnosis and monitoring of cardiac arrhythmias, VitaGraph — measurement and monitoring of human pulse using video.

In addition, the participants of Samsung Connection Day learned about Samsung’s global and local research, as well the company’s divisions and research laboratories. The company’s experts shared their forecasts regarding the main trends and directions at the technology market. The event’s participants also received recommendations on the further development of the projects they presented.

Partners of the Samsung Connection Day included: Harman Russia (Nizhny Novgorod), Skolkovo Foundation, NeuroNet Accelerator, Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, Akademgorodok Technopark, GoTech Accelerator (St. Petersburg), YellowRockets Accelerator (Samara). All of them actively participated in discussions after each project was presented, and also communicated with the startups personally.

Samsung Connection Day is an event organized by Samsung to find new partners and cooperation opportunities. It is an important activity of the company, since interacting with startups that develop promising technologies and solutions allows the corporation to improve its existing products and services, as well as to create new ones.

The SAIC-Moscow opened on May 29, 2018. It expanded the portfolio of Samsung Research and became the fifth Samsung research center in the world specializing in AI. The center helps the company to strengthen its leadership in machine learning and data analysis fields, and explore the wide range of applications of user-oriented AI. The main areas of study at the center are computer vision and basic algorithms for an AI platform. Today seven Samsung Artificial Intelligence Centers are open under the company’s leadership: in Seoul, Silicon Valley, New York, Cambridge, Moscow, Toronto and Montreal.

In addition to the SAIC-Moscow, research is being conducted in its joint laboratories with leading Russian universities. At the moment, such AI labs are operating at Moscow State University, Higher School of Economics and St. Petersburg Department of Steklov Institute of Mathematics of Russian Academy of Sciences. In addition, Samsung is working on technological projects with universities in many cities of Russia, including Kazan, Samara, Rostov-on-Don, Tomsk, Novosibirsk.

The SAIC-Moscow has become the platform for promoting the company’s educational initiatives. That is why in the summer of 2018 the first AI Bootcamp summer school was held in the AI ​​Center. In addition, the Center hosted presentations of the best projects of the programs “IT SCHOOL SAMSUNG” and “IoT Samsung Academy” projects 2018 graduates.
